Venerable Fulton J. Sheen was a prominent American Roman Catholic bishop and theologian known for his influential work as a television and radio personality. Born in 1895, he gained widespread recognition through his television program “Life Is Worth Living,” which aired from 1952 to 1957. Sheen’s ability to communicate complex theological ideas in a relatable and engaging way earned him a significant following and made him a leading figure in Catholic media.
In addition to his media work, Sheen was a bishop of the Diocese of Rochester, New York, and later served as the Archbishop of the Diocese of New York. He was also known for his writing, with numerous books on theology and spirituality to his name. His work in religious education and his commitment to promoting Christian values left a lasting impact on American Catholicism. Sheen was beatified by the Catholic Church in 2020, a step towards canonization as a saint.
